Chive Bloom Vinegar

Do you have an abundance of blooms on your chives? This is a great recipe using your blossoms from your chive plant. I have been very lucky and my chives have been coming back every year now for about three years. This recipe is super simple and a great healthy vinegar to go with a salad or paired with a marinade. This would also be a great gift idea for someone who loves to cook or healthy eating. The longer you steep the blooms in the vinegar the more flavorful it will be. I did the longer method for steeping the blooms. You can also boil the vinegar and pour over your blossoms and steep for three days. I chose the longer method plus the jars look pretty in my kitchen. 😊❤ Let me show you how to make this.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh chive blooms
  • 1 1/2 cups white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup chopped chive leaves, optional

Directions:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Crush the blossoms to release their scent and flavor. I used my Mortar and Pestle to crush the blossoms to release their natural essential oils.
  • Loosely pack them into a clean glass pint jar (it is not necessary to sterilize the jar first).
  • Pour the vinegar over the chive blossoms until they are completely immersed in the liquid. Stir the chives down into the vinegar with a spoon or chopstick.
  • Tightly cover the jar and label it with the date. Store at room temperature away from direct light or heat for 2 weeks.
  • Strain the vinegar into an attractive, clean glass bottle. Compost or discard the spent blossoms.
  • Cork or tightly cover the bottle.

Enjoy! Easy Peasy 😊
